From the Editorial Suite

I started this website in October of 2005, with the intention of it eventually evolving into an online magazine. The going has been tough, what with the twin presures of time and resources. However, I am happy to say that we have been able to achieve most of what we set out to do in these first few months.

First, if the growing readership of eBeefs is anything to go by, this organ has indeed established a dedicated following among the blog-reading masses, even surpassing our wildest expectations. Second, the feedback from readers has made us realise all the more that there is a need for an organ like this, one with the declared aim of "telling it like it is".

This mission becomes all the more imperative when one one contemplates the tosh we see being passed-off these days as news and independent commentary, not least the coverage of the dismemberment and devastation of Africa, otherwise known as "aid and development"; and the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people and their Arab kin in the name of what Tweedle-Bush and Tweedle-Blair call "freedom and democracy".

I must give thanks and praises to the internet, for making this venture possible, for the very simple reason that you, Gentle Reader, would have been unable to get even a glimpse of the eBeefs perspective otherwise. My sojourn in mainstream journalism, and the almost instinctive censorship that pervades it, made that very clear for me.

Enough about me! Now, to eBeefs. The organ has evolved since its inception almost a year ago. We are now ready to move on to the next stage of development. This will entail carrying articles by other writers, not only on political economy but also on subjects. As the wise man said, "Wisdom is like a goatskin bag - each man carries his own".

Up to this point mine has been the only goatskin bag in the boutique. That is going to change. We need to tap into all the talent out there to arrive at what one might call the eBeefs ideal. The focus of eBeefs remains the same, strong and steadfast as ever. It is the view from the bottom of the pile, and will ever remain so.

The continued success of this venture will depend on each and every one of us. (Yes, I am a sentimental lefty!) The comment feature has already been enabled to accept inputs from unregistered commenters. It was disabled after several "unhelpful" comments were posted on the site at its inception. We will strive to ensure every one who wants to post comments can do so.

Gentle reader, you will note that the look of your favourite site has changed. This is all part of what we may call the eBeefs relaunch. Your favourite organ is evolving. If you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch, for this will be an ongoing process.

This venture runs on what one might call nil-budget. All contributions are welcome with many thanks. Aside from hard cash, article contributions and those with web-design know-how are very welcome, as are those with the occasional advice on ...whatever: all are welcome. We have already received help from unexpected quarters, and for that we are very grateful.
