The President's Pressmen, an eBeefs film
Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 03:53 by J L Samboma
Earlier this month security personnel attached to State House beat up four journalists in Sierra Leone and left one in a coma. The independent press in the country has for many years been subject to violent harrassment and intimidation by the state.
Below is the trailer for a documentary - "The President's Pressmen" - on the undeclared war the government is waging on the press in Sierra Leone. The DVD is free, so please place your order before present stocks run out.
Why is the DVD Free?
The DVD is free because I made it for the sole purpose of highlighting the brutality and intolerance my colleagues back home are up against in their daily, working lives. It did not occur to me that I could turn a profit from it. Although the many attacks on independent journalists and news organisations in Sierra Leone are invariably covered in various local and international print media, and the internet, I felt there was a need for an audio-visual recounting of what many see as state-sponsored violence against the press.
Why charge for postage?
I believe it is only fair that prospective viewers cover the meagre costs of shipping the DVD to them. I have given freely of both my physical and intellectual labour; the £5.00 just about covers production and postage and packing costs. For the equivalent of around half the cost of a glass of beer or wine, you can watch and keep this informative and searing documentary on the violent, repressive nature of a government which claims to respect democratic ideals but does the exact opposite.
If I could stand out in the street and hand it out to people for free, I would do it. In effect, that is what’s happening here, the only difference being that I am asking people to meet me on the street corner! eBeefs is a one-man band, working on limited resources which cannot extend to funding a courier service delivery to each household.
You may also want to support the work we do
If you would also like to support our next documentary film project, which is now in post-production, then you could remit the sum of £10.00 or more as indicated on the paypal payment options on the right. The first £5.00 will cover the costs of getting The President's Pressmen to you, while the remainder will go towards. Those remitting £15.00 or more will receive a signed copy of The Hijacking of Libya free of charge upon its release. Many thanks for the support.
